Buddy beats the queue by ordering ahead for less

Business, Daily Updates, Healthy, Local Knowledge, Marketing, New Openings, News, Travel

New ‘order ahead’ feature will save waiting for your favourite bites to eat, so you can get straight back to the beach!

Okay, so you are down the beach and loving life, but you decide you are getting a little hungry. Imagine having the ability to pull out your device and search epic places around you to pre-order your favourite burger, healthy salad or fish and chips!

Buddy has started to implement new updates and collaborations to create the opportunity for hungry users to ‘Get a life’ by saving waiting times on food orders so you can get straight back to what you were doing, living life.

How?

You will have the ability to order your cravings right away and pay in the buddy app. Buddy will then notify you when it has been processed and ready for pickup! Simple!

With these epic new features soon to be rolled out, just proves that the company is always striving to deliver and build the best platform for users when it comes to food and drinks!

Buddy already offers ‘first to market’ technology which is being swallowed up by restaurants. Such as the introduction of the ‘Beacon’ which broadcasts special promotions to buddy users when in and around the vicinity of the restaurant. Buddy also has created the ability for restaurants to create their own community of followers for their business profile. Users can follow favourite places to receive exclusive announcements of specials, happy hours and up and coming events before you even see it in a social media scroll.

Why?

The culture of today is fast, very fast. We as hungry foodies don’t want to wait up to half an hour for food, especially if you are down the beach or you are on your lunch break and only have an hour to spare.

Buddy aims to revolutionise mobile ordering, but most importantly the connectivity between the customer and the restaurant with live announcements. Why stand in a line and wait to be served, then stand in another line to wait again for your coffee or takeaway order.

When you can beat all that with buddy.

With partnerships being negotiated with major sports arenas, buddy does not stop with just the hospitality industry. The company aims to change the ‘live sports experience’ to new levels with the updates soon to be rolled out.

Imagine watching your beloved sports team live at the MCG, but your stomach is going crazy and the queues at the food stands are outrageous. What if you could order your food and beer and then simply get notified that your order is ready for pickup! Making the process from pick up to seat in less than 2 minutes flat, so you can get straight back to the match.

Now that’s a feature we will all be looking forward to.

Download buddy today to checkout daily specials, happy hours and follow your new favourites today.

Local Favourite Larder & Baked Joins Buddy

Business, Daily Updates, Healthy, Influencers, Local Knowledge, Marketing, New Openings, News, Travel

Larder & Baked Noosa Heads is yet another epic eatery joining the buddy platform.

Yes! Thats right! Larder & Baked have now joined buddy to showcase everything they do and also offer special deals to their buddy Followers!

Larder & Baked have been open for no more than 6 months and have quickly become a local favourite! This doesn’t surprise us, as they know exactly what they are doing and what the community needs. Carly and Dan Baum have been learning their trade locally for many years and it really shows.

Carly & Dan Baum | Owners of Larder & Baked

Hospitality Industry

It all began for Carly at a very young age when she became hungry for work. At just 12 years old she decided to take it upon herself to go job hunting, but this was no ordinary job hunt. As Carly, if you have met her, being a very strong, bubbly and humorous character decided to create a ‘little white lie’ and told potential employers she was 14 “Back then, after all it was an extra 45c an hour!” Carly said. It’s clear the foundation was being laid very early for a very hard working, driven and successful individual.

Now in their 30’s and with two kids, they hold their heads high as two successful entrepreneurs with a stream of businesses in the hospitality sector. Carly, with all her passion and knowledge of the industry, also runs a successful wedding Business. This involves planning, styling and of course the catering in which Dan looks after using the Larder & Baked kitchen facilities after hours.

Larder & Baked

The birth of Larder & Baked was on Valentines Day, but unfortunately it wasn’t a romantic one for Carly and Dan as they were thrown in the deep end with endless curious customers. Having only spoken to a few passers by during the reno’s of Larder & Baked, they found themselves overflowing with people right off the bat. Carly and Dan weren’t expecting such an amazing response so instantly.

Larder & Baked are exactly what the community needed. A fast, fresh and easy takeaway option that serves great coffee till late in the day. (Satisfying those 3pm cravings). It wasn’t long until they were dragging in tables and chairs as it became on high demand for people to enjoy their lunch breaks from all around the area.

Halloumi & Egg Roll | Larder & Baked

They have a wonderful selection of Fresh hearty salads at affordable prices. Epic Egg Rolls with different choices of fillings to satisfy all taste buds and a selection of mouthwatering baked goods prepared daily. Larder & Baked are now the go-to spot for breakfast, lunch or even that mid afternoon ‘smoko’ break for a coffee and sugar hit to top you up and get you through the end of the day! It truly is exactly what the community needed and that is down to Carly and Dan’s expertise. “We really wanted to solve the issue of grabbing a healthy bite to eat at any time of the day” Carly said, “Tradies really care about what they put in their bodies, these boys can only grab fast unhealthy things around town, especially after 1pm”. “so we knew what was missing, not only for tradies but for literally everyone in and around the Noosa Junction”.

Having proven their idea a huge success, Larder & Baked are now a huge part of the ‘JUNGA’ community, and they are here to stay.

Now a proud member of the buddy community, Larder & Baked can showcase everything they do best, to their very own community of loyal followers on their buddy Profile. By following Larder & Baked you gain access to exclusive information regarding daily specials, invites to private functions, menu launches, special deals & much more via exclusive in-app notifications.

Three awesome things to do in Noosa on Christmas Day.

Daily Updates, Events, Healthy, Local Knowledge, News, Travel

Having a christmas day Gatho? heres three top things to do in Noosa.

Christmas Morning is nearly here, the time has come to dig out those dusty esky’s and hose them out, round the troops with deck chairs and foldout tables, mums on the glad wrap and dads packing the portable bbq, while your busy dropping the bag of ice from the biggest hight possible for the best ice to keep the beers cold!

We all love christmas, but each experience can be very different for some, heres buddy’s top tips for how to have the best time cheaply, but creating priceless memories on your christmas day.

3. National Park Picnic

Noosa National Park is one of the best coastal walks Australia has to offer, With each turn you are wow’d by a postcard picture, The noise of the rainbow lorikeet’s waking up and the subtle crash of the waves coming up the shore. Wake up at 6:00am before the morning madness begins and enjoy a glass of bubbles & strawberry with some freshly made warm ham and cheese croissant, relaxing on a picnic blanket over looking tea tree bay would be a fantastic way to kick start the christmas celebrations.

2. River retreat.

Yep, you know it! Once you have kickstarted your Christmas day with a relaxing champers, its time to find a ‘proppa’ good spot to start building your settlement for the day on the beautiful Noosa River. Unpacking the esky packed with salads, prawns, rolls, chips and drinks, make sure laying out the table is a team effort (obviously with a bevo in hand) and then sit back, relax and enjoy the day off with friends and family before the un-official ashes christmas day cricket test match begins! Remember, pick a spot by the Big Pelican where the toilets are 😉

Photo, thanks to Noosa Boat house.

1. Barbecue time.

After a long hard day of doing absolutely nothing, (apart from being 148 – not out of course) its time to fire up the BBQ, Our tip for the free bbq’s is that they don’t get that hot, so we would recommend taking your own portable one just in case. Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t mind the odd snag or two. The best snags in town would be from the Noosaville village butchers opposite Dan Murphy’s, they have the best Cumberland snags you will find on the Coast! OR…… you can flame up some beautiful rib eye fillets, here’s our tip on the perfect Steak;

Starting from home, coat both sides very generously with coarse black pepper and granulated garlic powder and drop the fillet singularly into a sandwich bag for time to marinate, pull the bad boy out of the bag when your bbq is that hot its starting to glow. For each steak, sprinkle 3/4 teaspoon of salt onto the skillet and allow salt to sit for at least 1 minute.

Place the steaks on and allow 3 solid minutes, whatever you do do not touch, poke, lift of even look at those bad boys until that 3 minutes is up! Once it is, repeat history.

All together 6 minutes is up and you have a medium rare juicy perfectly rested steak, if you wish for it to be medium then allow an extra 30 seconds on each side.

Now, Put your steaks in a roomy tin foil wrap, not tight…roomy to allow moisture and flavours to be absorbed by the steak properly.

Slice and dice that shit and serve it up in any form you wish!

This is exactly what we will be doing this Christmas, have a great day.

Noosa’s Supporter of Local Produce, Business and Community.

Daily Updates, Healthy, Influencers, Local Knowledge, News

Padstows Noosa has to be one of the front runners of ‘how’ a local restaurant should operate, everything they do has a touch of class about it.

When Padstows burst onto the Noosa scene a few years ago, they put a huge stamp on what the Noosa junction should become, and they have done just that.

Taking up nearly the entire corner of the Junction, with a huge bar clear to see for all, great furniture, decor, food, cocktails, ambiance and service, the Padstow crew really made a noise showing the rest of the the town how it should be done.

The restaurant is completely well thought out as they have provided wheelchair access, free wifi and even USB ports so you can charge your devices if you decide to hang out at padstows with your laptop catching up on some emails.

Local Produce

Padstows only uses the freshest produce the Sunshine Coast has to offer, with nothing spanning further that 20k from paddock to plate, the crew really have taken care in supporting local farmers, business and customers in making sure everything they provide is at the upmost best they can possibly offer.

They also can boast that their wine selection is to die for, selection of craft beers is enough to make you want to try them all and to top it all off they even have happy hours, lunch specials, live music and Sunday sessions!

Noosa has plenty of fantastic restaurants, bars, cafes and coffee shops but Padstows has Won the ‘Influencer’ status and will be given its very own business profile on our Restaurant app when launched. Also their very own Portfolio showcasing everything they do in our archives and our Blog.

Congratulations Padstows Noosa, Sunshine Coast.

App coming this Spring.

To Tea or Not to Tea?

Daily Updates, Healthy, News

From helping you lose weight to fighting cancer, we’re constantly sold on the power of tea. In the first of a new series, nutritionist Dr Emma Beckett separates fact from fiction.

Improved mood, reduced risk of heart disease and diabetes … tea is linked to multiple health benefits. Many of us drink tea for the good things it does for us, but are all teas created equal?

What is it, what’s in it?
First, some quick background. Black, green, white and oolong teas all come from the same plant, Camellia sinensis. The colour and flavour then changes during processing and harvesting. After harvesting, black tea is exposed to high levels of oxygen, causing oxidation, which darkens the leaves. Green tea stays green because it isn’t oxidised, whereas white tea is processed the same way as green, but harvested earlier. Oolong could be described as the middle ground between green and black.

All are a good source of bioactives, compounds that aren’t an essential part of our diets but may have health benefits. The bioactives found in tea are L-theanine, caffeine and antioxidants. L-theanine gives you that calm feeling, caffeine makes you alert and antioxidants help prevent the cell damage caused by free radicals. Slightly more antioxidants means green tea is typically considered the most healthy option.

Is loose tea better? What about milk?
Surprisingly, teabags might be healthier than loose leaf tea. The lower grade teas, which make their way into teabags, include stems that contain more bioactives than leaves. Teabag tea is also cut more finely, improving extraction – which is why powdered matcha is so potent. Regardless of the type, the longer you brew, the more bioactives you extract, so patience in the key.

The debate rages on about when to add milk, and even if you should add milk at all. The UK’s Royal Society of Chemistry has suggested that adding milk first prevents clumping of milk proteins, which might give milk a stale taste. Historically though, milk was probably added first simply to stop the hot water from damaging the china.

Some scientists have suggested milk alters the antioxidant activity and health benefits of tea, but others have shown the same level of antioxidants reach the blood whether you drink with or without milk. Interestingly, lemon might actually increase the bioactive extraction, by making the water slightly acidic.

Of course, more is not always better. Too much tea can lead to overconsumption of caffeine. Some caffeine may provide health benefits, but too much can cause insomnia, irritability and stomach upsets. The definition of “too much” varies, but is about 600 milligrams per day, which you could get from five to six cups of tea. Tannins in tea can also bind some nutrients, such as iron and calcium, stopping them from being absorbed. In other words, if you are low in iron you may want to hold off on the cuppa you have with breakfast.

What’s in a name?
Be wary, simply being called “tea” does not guarantee a product contains healthy bioactives. Pre-packaged iced teas and some instant teas have low levels of bioactives and can be high in sugar. Herbal and fruit teas, despite the name, don’t contain any actual tea, and properties vary dramatically. The use of word “tea” is not regulated by Australian food standards, so check the ingredients to see what you’re getting.

Herbal teas are often marketed for “detox” or weight-loss. This is somewhat accurate, as drinking tea may help regulate weight due to the stimulating effect of caffeine, and if you’re drinking tea to replace more calorie-dense drinks in your diet. Many teas also include herbal laxatives, which will see you lose a little weight quickly just by emptying your bowels. That said, drinkers are unlikely to see significant weight loss without also modifying the rest of their diet. Concentrated green tea extracts are also marketed with the same claims, but use caution: they have been linked to liver damage and failure, a big risk when there is little evidence they even work.

It is always tempting to look for the silver bullets. Tea is tasty and contains healthy bioactives, but whether it’s in brewed or extract form, it can’t cancel out other bad habits in our diets.

Dr Emma Beckett is Broadsheet’s nutrition columnist. A molecular nutritionist with a PhD in Food Science, she is a post-doctoral fellow in the School of Medicine and Public Health and the University of Newcastle. In a world of mixed messages she can be found busting nutrition myths and empowering people to critically assess nutrition information. She tweets at @synapse101.
